The 400-mile speech

Over the weekend I drove to Santa Barbara and back, 400 miles, to listen to British Member of Parliament Daniel Hannan speak to a group at the Ronald Reagan Ranch Center. That’s a long way to go for a plateful of “food for thought.” But it was worth every mile.

Watch Hannan’s October 15, 2010 speech here.

Besides being a compelling speaker, Hannan’s a fan of California’s Ronald Reagan.

The speech that made Hannan famous has been viewed by almost 3 million people.

At the speech I bought a few copies of his latest book, “The New Road to Serfdom: A Letter of Warning to America.”

The title is taken from F.A. Hayek’s excellent “The Road to Serfdom.”

What did I get from Hannan’s speech? I enjoyed the “power to the little people” concepts he shared.

What did I take home with me as the rallying cry?

Eternal vigilance.
