Fallbrook enjoys ocean breezes because it is located just 17 miles from the Pacific Ocean. Oceanside’s beaches and its harbor offer boats and water sports, fishing, the promenade with video arcades, dining and more.
For those who like to cook and those who love to eat well, check out these local sources of great food and wine.
There are lots of things to do in San Diego County. We’ve received rave reviews from soccer players, swimmers, surfers, golfers, dog and horse lovers, tennis and polo players, nature lovers and hikers and wine and yoga enthusiasts. Professional cyclists love our home in the winter — absolutely no snow and lots of great routes for cycling. For those looking for antiques, barn sales and vintage finds, I’ve written a special section just for you! If you’re planning on going clothes shopping, follow this link.
Southern California has many casinos plus world-class theme parks the whole family will want to visit–Travel Zoo offers deals. Legoland is nearby — you’ll love its waterslide — and so is the San Diego Zoo’s Safari Park. We also have some quirky places like the Dr. Seuss Museum. And the Dia de los Muertos in October, held at the Old Mission San Luis Rey Mission, is definitely worth experiencing!
And this one focuses on Fallbrook events and includes a bit about our little “downtown” area. It’s rapidly changing, with a new Prohibition Brewery and Small Town Restaurant on Main. We also have lots of local music. See Bands in Town for details.
Fallbrook’s Hot Summer Nights, with hot cars and great food, is special and the local Vintage Car Club also holds events. Grand Tradition hosts musical events and jazz concerts in its park-like gardens. For the horse lovers, we have stables and polo nearby. And there are trails to explore, including Gird Valley preserve, 47.74 acres located walking distance from out home in Gird Valley. This one on Monserate Mountain is especially challenging. The 27-acre Live Oak Park is just a few minutes drive from the house. And we have a 500-acre sunflower farm in Fallbrook.
And don’t miss our library. Yes, our library! The original Fallbrook Library was opened in 1913, the first branch of the San Diego County Public Library system. It now has over 25,000 cardholders, over half of all local residents and circulates 540 items a day, more than 200,000 per year, one of the highest rates in the County. An award-winning building was erected in 2011. It is stunning, with a living roof of succulents plus tile murals, fountains and patios for relaxing. The library offers events and even free music. Next door is a great little used book store, the Bottom Shelf, where you’ll find bargains for reading while relaxing in the hammock this summer. Whenever I visit the library, I also like to pop in to the Art Center just to the east at Alvarado and Main and see what’s happening. Between these two buildings, on the north side of Alvarado, is the Gem and Mineral Museum. Grab a bite to eat at Cafe des Artistes behind the Art Center. See our section on food and wine for more on restaurants.
There is also a lot to do to the northeast and east of Fallbrook, in Temecula and Pauma Valley, including Balloon Rides, Casinos, Concerts, Fishing, Hiking, Horseback Riding, Pilates and, for shuttle services and winery tours, we highly recommend Winery Hopper.
There is so much to do, you’ll find something for everyone, in and around Fallbrook.
While San Diego averages 146 sunny days a year, Fallbrook averages 264! Check out today’s weather in Fallbrook and ten days out. Beyond summertime, you’ll also REALLY want to be in Fallbrook November through April because “winter” is amazing! While everyone else in the country is suffering with ice, sleet and snow, you can golf and swim and hike almost every day in Fallbrook. If you’d like more detailed information on the microclimate for the house’s exact location, follow this link. Only a handful of places on the planet enjoy a true Mediterranean climate and Southern California — within 20 miles of the coast, where our houses are located — is one such place.
Again, thank you for choosing Fallbrook and Sandy looks forward to having you as our guests soon!
